UFO photo captured over San Diego

Several San Diego residents reported spotting mysterious lights on Tuesday night, and one witness was able to snap a picture.

According to NBC 7 San Diego, viewer Larry Fox sent them a picture of an odd light he spotted in the night sky. NBC 7 described the picture as “a string of multicolored lights.”

Fox reported that he was in his backyard when he saw the strange light to the southwest. He says he ruled out a drone or a plane because the light was stationary.

“It was a series of flashing lights,” he told NBC 7. “If it was a plane, it would have moved.”
NBC 7 reported that Fox described the lights as “red, blue and green,” and that the lights “kept flashing and changing colors.”

Apparently, Fox was not the only one to see the lights. NBC 7 says they heard from several other viewers who saw them, and even one of their own photographers says he saw the lights.

Although the image shows what appears to be multiple lights, or one long illuminated streak, it is very similar to pictures of a single point of light that looks like it is moving due to camera shake. At night cameras will keep the aperture open longer in order to capture more light. If the camera is moved during this time, the image will create a motion blur effect.

Often bright stars are photographed and mistaken as UFOs due to this effect.

As for the colors, stars will often look like they blink and change colors due to the atmosphere, and if the star is closer to the horizon, then there is more atmosphere to look through, and in a big city, there is also pollution.

In 2013, a resident of the town of Oshawa in Ontario, Canada took this UFO picture (below) of what he thought was a UFO. He says it was a bright point of light, but the object looks like a streak because of camera shake.

The biggest culprit when it comes to celestial objects being mistaken for UFOs is Venus. It may seem odd, but Venus is remarkably bright in the night sky, and it is easy to mistake it for something else. According to EarthSky.org, it is in the night sky this month, and very bright. Their site says this month Venus is the “brightest planet and third-brightest object in the sky after the sun and moon – climbs higher up at dusk, and stays out later after dark, than it did in March 2015.”

So was it Venus that was captured in this photograph in San Diego? It’s possible. But then again, perhaps there is another picture out there that can prove it is something much more mysterious.

Fast moving UFO reported over Delaware

A Delaware witness at New Castle reported watching a fast moving object before it turned at a right angle and disappeared about 4:28 a.m. on April 28, 2015, according to testimony in Case 65033 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside on a work break sitting in a car when a bright light was seen moving at a high rate of speed left to right in the sky.

“My first thought was a shooting star, but the light was too low and too bright,” the witness stated. “As the light moved past I was looking for blinking lights, but there were none. My window was also down and there was no sound.”

The witness described the object’s movement.

“The object appeared to turn south at a 90-degree angle and then shoot off. The light did not diminish, but the farther it moved away, it dimmed. No trail or change of color or shape was noticed. There were no red or green wing lights observed as would be on a plane.”

The object seemed to move faster than known aircraft.

“The distance covered by the object would have taken a plane 20-30 seconds to cover. The object covered it in two to three seconds. The object did appear to be lower than commercial air craft as the planes are landing in Philly airport. There is a National Guard station in Newcastle about the same distance away from me. I also thought it might be a helicopter, but no sound and absent blinking lights and the speed of the light.”

New Castle is a city in New Castle County, Delaware, population 5,285.

Delaware is currently a UFO Alert Level 5 – with 1.09 sightings per million population based on MUFON February 2015 statistics. Delaware received a total of one UFO reports in March.

The UFO Alert Rating System is based on five levels – 1 through 5 – where states with 4.01 or higher reports per million residents are rated an Alert 1; 3.01 – 4.0 reports are an Alert 2; 2.51 – 3.0 are an Alert 3; 2.01 – 2.5 are an Alert 4; and those states with 2.0 or lower are rated an Alert 5.

The witness provided one illustration with the MUFON report, which was filed on April 28, 2015.

Diamond-shaped UFO reported hovering over NY lake

A New York witness at Conesus reported watching a diamond-shaped UFO “larger than a plane” hovering over a lake, according to testimony in Case 65015 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving home about 12:15 a.m. on May `1, 2015, when the object was first seen.

“I got to the top of a hill that overlooks the lake I live on about four miles away from my house,” the witness stated. “I right away noticed a very bright and distinct light just hovering over the lake that I live on.”

The witness described the object.

“It was in the shape of a square and it was brighter than a star, and only a few stars were in the sky that night.”

The witness continued driving and moved closer to the object.

“As I got closer and closer it still was not moving at all, so I rolled my windows down and turned off the radio to listen to see if I could hear anything like a helicopter. Nothing. I could not hear a sound at all.”

The witness continued driving thinking that the object might be a Chinese lantern.

“Once I got close enough to be right under it (however, I was on the road and it was over the lake to my left) I saw that it was some sort of an aircraft. However, it was in the shape of a diamond. It had the large square light so bright on the front peek, the outer two peaks had flashing red lights on them and the back side had a flashing white and green light.”

The object was also very low.

“It was lower than any plane I had ever seen fly in that area. It slowly started to fly over my head and back north down where I had just come from as I drove under it – still making no sound at all. When I turned around to try and get a good look, it as gone into the darkness.”

The witness attempted to take photos of the object.

“I took two photos on my phone, but when I went to show my father the next day, they were not there. Not sure if while I was driving they didn’t come out or what happened.”

Conesus is a town in Livingston County, New York, population 2,743.

New York is currently a UFO Alert Level 5 – with 0.20 sightings per million population based on MUFON February 2015 statistics. New York received a total of two UFO reports in March.

Virginia witness describes low flying rectangle UFO

A Virginia witness reported watching a “large, rectangular object with lights in front and rear flying low near the Potomac River” crossing Route 301 near King George, according to testimony in Case 64920 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving along Route 301 about 10:10 p.m. on April 23, 2015, when the object was first seen.

“At first glance I thought the lights might be from the wings of an unusually low-flying, very large airplane, but I quickly realized that this was not an airplane,” the witness stated. “I watched the lights more intently trying to figure it out, and thought that maybe it was two planes flying in sync with each other.”

The witness quickly ruled out the idea that it was two airplanes flying together.

“No, couldn’t be that either, especially considering the positions of the lights and the fact that the lights on the front and the back remained perfectly equidistant from each other the entire time the object flew by.”

The object appeared to be a rectangle.

“From my view this object seemed like a large rectangle. The shorter ends had white lights, three (or maybe more) across the front and at least two on the back with one red light blinking in the middle of the rear (between the white lights). The object seemed very large because of the diminishing perspective of the row of lights, which at first made it seem like it was tilted at an angle, but then I realized it was actually a row of lights covering a long length (the way a long fence seems smaller and at an angle the farther away it is from the viewer).”

The witness described the object.

“The two rows of lights remained equidistant from each other the entire time the craft passed by. It was definitely not two planes flying in sync with each other, which my rational mind was trying to make work as an explanation. It floated very smoothly in a straight line from the right of my line of vision to my left. It was dark in the area between the lights. Though I seemed to be able to see ‘sky’ between the two rows of lights, I don’t remember actually being able to see stars.”

The object seemed like floating glass.

“It was like a large rectangular piece of glass floating by with lights at both ends. It seemed to be flying parallel to the Potomac River on the Virginia side, crossing Route 301, maybe heading toward northern Virginia or Washington, DC.”

The witness speculated on the object’s size.

“Size? I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing was at least 100 meters by 300 meters or so.”

The witness could not identify the object.

“My reaction? ‘What the hell is that?’ Awe and curiosity. I felt a little giddy and excited. I also felt some frustration that I didn’t have anything with me that could take a photo and that I had no place safely to pull over for a better view.”

The object was unusually silent.

“I kept expecting to hear a loud engine, but never heard anything at all. I even opened my car window because I felt like I should be able to hear it. But I heard nothing but my own car. About 3-5 minutes passed from the time I noticed its approach from the front right of my view until I couldn’t see it anymore on my left (trees in the way). Very interesting.”

King George is the county seat of King George County, Virginia, population 4,457.

Virginia is currently a UFO Alert Level 5 – with 0.86 sightings per million population based on MUFON February 2015 statistics. Virginia received a total of seven UFO reports in March.
