EXOPOLITICAL DISCLOSURE: The "Men In Grey" - BBC Posts Article Arguing For The Return Of Official UFO Investigations In The UK!

March 24, 2016 -  ENGLAND -  The BBC posted an article today by former UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) UFO hunter Nick Pope. The article reviews the history of the UK’s official UFO investigation program and Pope’s argument for the reopening of the program.

The story is on the front page of BBC.com and is featured under Editor’s Picks.

Pope says official interest in UFOs in the UK began with Sir Henry Tigard, the Chief Scientific Adviser for the MoD. His interest in the topic was piqued by UFO articles in newspapers. He encouraged a study which was conducted by a small committee called the Flying Saucer Working Party.

According to Pope, In 1951, the committee concluded “UFO sightings could be explained as misidentifications, hoaxes or delusions.”

They recommended that the government not spend resources investigating the topic. However, that changed the following year when Royal Air Force pilots and other military personnel witnessed UFOs during a NATO exercise. Some were tracked on radar. By 1953, the MoD officially began investigating UFOs.

“A UFO, it’s worth remembering, refers to any unidentified flying object – not necessarily an extraterrestrial one. While the MOD investigations were aimed at determining whether there was evidence of any threat, we were thinking more about Russians than Martians,” writes Pope.

“The theory was that some sightings might involve Soviet spy planes or bombers probing our air defences to try to evaluate the effectiveness of our radar systems, aircraft and pilots.”

Pope manned the UFO desk from 1991 to 1994, but he says “It wasn’t quite as glamorous as sci-fi movies imply: it was less Men in Black and more Men in Grey.”

The MoD mostly looked for conventional explanations for UFO sightings, and briefed defence ministers so they could respond to requests by members of parliament. He said their goal was to “respond in a polite, factual, but dismissive way.”

Pope says there were some good cases to come across the desk, such as the Rendelsham Forest incitement in 1980, and a case referred to as the Cosford incident in 1993. Pope can be seen talking about this case in the video at the top of this story.

According to Pope, “Of around 12,000 sightings that the programme investigated, approximately 5% remained unexplained.”

Although there were unexplained cases, the extraterrestrial possibility was still met with skepticism. Instead, other theories were entertained. A secret intelligence study on UFOs completed in 2000 concluded: “No evidence exists to suggest that the phenomena seen are hostile or under any type of control, other than that of natural physical forces.”

However, the report continued: “It is recommended that further investigation should be [made] into the applicability of various characteristics of plasmas in novel military applications.”

Nick Pope (image credit: www.nickpope.net)

“This is the ultimate dirty secret about UFOs,” says Pope. “A natural phenomenon that could be weaponised would be hugely attractive to the military of any nation.”

In 2009, the MoD closed the UFO desk. The official stance became, “The MOD has no opinion on the existence or otherwise of extraterrestrial life. However, in over fifty years, no UFO report has revealed any evidence of a potential threat to the United Kingdom.”

However, Pope disagrees with their strategy. He says there is now no organized method for the UK to collect sighting reports from the public. He is not arguing we are leaving ourselves open for an attack by aliens, but there are other threats as well, such as drones. He warns, “Drones can be used in espionage, while some security analysts have expressed concerns that terrorists could use them to carry explosives, or slam them into passenger aircraft.”

“Without a place people can go to when they observe something strange, we can’t be fully apprised of what’s going on in our airspace,” Pope argues. “And, after all, even if we are alone in the Universe, we’re not alone on Earth.”

Costa Rica witness captures disc UFO over volcano

A Costa Rica witness at Cartago reported watching and photographing a saucer-shaped UFO near the Irazú Volcano National Park, according to testimony in Case 74756 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside in the park area with a girlfriend in good weather with sunlight and no clouds when the incident occurred at 11:06 a.m. on February 24, 2016.

“This volcano is 3,400 meters of altitude above sea level (11,260 feet) close to the biosphere, so we were above the clouds,” the witness stated.“Like when you fly on an airplane, the sky was really clear so at 11 a.m. on that altitude part of the sky was light black.”

The witness was taking pictures of the volcano and the landscape.

“The clouds looked like a white sea, but I noticed close to one of the mountains some clouds with different forms, so I started to take pictures there.”

The witness then finished the tour and began to head home.

“While I was checking the pictures, I noticed one black circle above the mountains I noticed before. It looked like a circular saucer with two little antennas – one on the top of it and like one on its tail. On the moment while taking the pictures, I did not see it. I took the pictures in a burst. On one picture you can see the object completely clear. On the next one it vanished – almost in seconds. All the pictures have less than one-minute difference. I will attach the pictures guys. Thanks for your time. Greetings from Costa Rica.”

The witness included three images with the report, which was filed on February 5, 2016. MUFON SAT Group Director Chase Kloetzke is investigating.

Irazú Volcano National Park is a national park in the Central Volcanic Conservation Area of Costa Rica that encompasses the area around the Irazú Volcano inCartago Province which incorporates what used to be the Ruben Torres Rojas Forest Reserve now called the Prusia Forest Reserve. The volcano is still active although the last major eruptions were between 1963 and 1965, with occasional minor eruptions and some small lava flows since that time.

California UFO encounter included loss of time

A California witness at Ridgecrest recalled an incident from 1992 when he and his wife observed UFOs dropping to the ground level while experiencing a loss of time, according to testimony in Case 75071 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The reporting witness and his wife were returning home from a trip and traveling along a highway between Edwards Air Force Base and China Lake Naval Base when they pulled over.

“The wife and I both got out of the car,” the witness stated, “with three small children asleep in the rear seat. We looked up and saw what we thought were stars, drop out of the sky and down into the valley where we were located.”

The two watched as the objects moved toward them.

“The objects were all around us. I was watching objects right off the ground coming right at us from across the valley with no sound get less than a half-mile from our position. And then the lights would go out.”

The witness watched as objects in the sky made maneuvers.

“I saw objects making moves in the sky that were impossible for a plane or helicopter. The G-forces alone would kill a normal human. Would catch out of the corner of my eye a dull, orange orb. When I would turn my head to look at it, it would just as quick duck below brush or a large mound of ground.

Very close to where we were parked.”

The witness was soon separated from his spouse.

“At one point I lost contact with my wife, turned around, and she was standing in the highway looking at me. She said, ‘don’t worry, they won’t hurt us,’and that was not her talking.”

The witness then stated that he came face-to-face with an object at ground level.

“And then looking past her, on the other side of the road, is when I saw it. In the dark with no lights on, hovering just above the ground, with no sound, right out of a black-and-white sci fi movie, a disc-shaped UFO.”

The witness was unable to physically react to the situation.

“As I stood there looking at it, I could not raise my hand and point fast enough to say,‘look at that.’ In the blink of an eye, it shot off alongside of the highway.”

The witness reflected on the situation.

“It was 11p.m. when I pulled over. Next thing we knew; it was 8 in the morning. Almost in a daze, we both got back in the car. As I got back in the car, I noticed that the children were in the same position they were in when I got out of the car. The experience has had a profound effect on my life. Something one just can’t forget about. Not sure if I really want to know what happened during the hours I can’t recall or remember. It took place many years ago, but I feel it is time to tell my story.”

California MUFON Field Investigator Earl Anderson is investigating. Ridgecrest is a city in Kern County, California, population 27,616.

Slow moving UFO captured on video over Alabama

WATCH: UFO over Alabama.

An Alabama witness at Orange Beach reported watching and videotaping an unusual looking cluster of lights moving east to west against the wind over the Gulf of Mexico, according to testimony in Case 71086 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was sitting outside on a balcony when the object was first noticed moving in a straight line from east to west about 10 p.m. on October 1, 2015.

“It kept the same height and was moving at what appeared to be around 30-40 mph,” the witness stated.

“It appeared to be a cluster of bright lights similar to a cluster of balloons. It made no sound and did not waver in speed or height.”

The sighting lasted approximately 10 minutes.

“I was very nervous at seeing this. It continued west until I could not see it any longer. I called 911 and reported what I saw. I found out this morning that the 911 call was in Foley, approximately 10 miles from the beach. I called the police back this morning and no one else had reported anything at least to them.”
The witness was able to get the object on video.

“I managed to get three iPhone videos of it. I have a DJI Phantom Drone which has a 4K camera. I turned that on and tried to get a video of it, but was unable to do so.”

Alabama MUFON State Director Richard Hoffman investigated and closed this case as an Unknown.

“The video clip shows a highly unusual shaped object when viewed on a large screen television,” Hoffman stated in his report.“The object moved from east to the west along the shore line at a steady pace. Wind directions are from the north and do not account for the object being a balloon or a set of balloons. The object continued moving until it went out of sight many minutes later. We do have military exercises in this corridor as it is shown on aeronautical maps. This object does not conform with any known aircraft and is certainly not the flares we always get from this area.”

The witness also noticed glowing light on the object.

“It had glowing bright white at the front top and bottom, curved end. Going from northwest to southeast. It was only a couple hundred feet from the ground. Very fast and silent. It was going so fast it only took a minute. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Strawn is a city in Palo Pinto County, Texas, population 653.

The witness provided a sketch of the object. The case was reported to MUFON on March 2, 2016.

Texas MUFON Chief Investigator Gary Neitzel is investigating.

Tennessee witness says UFO was larger than apartment complex

A Tennessee witness at Jasper reported having a strange feeling that caused him to move outside where he watched a silent, rectangle UFO larger than his apartment complex hovering nearby, according to testimony in Case 74637 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was at home in his bedroom when he had a strange feeling to go outside about 6:30 p.m. on October 30, 2015.

“So I jumped up and ran out as fast as I could,” the witness stated. “And I look straight up and there it was – a gigantic, black rectangle with red lights in the shape of a pyramid and one light off to itself on the edge of the craft.”

The witness was amazed at how large the craft was.

“It was so big that it was bigger than the apartment complex I live in.”

The object was moving very slowly.

“I watched it slowly move by. And I mean slowly – almost a hover for about 10 minutes until it got so far I could not see it anymore. I’ve been around military aircraft my whole life and I live close to an Air Force base so I see and have seen every type of flying machines known to man. I have never seen anything like this or that big.”

The witness is not sure what he saw.

“I don’t know if it was a UFO, but it’s the biggest, slowest and most quietist thing that I’ve ever seen in the sky. I would like to know why I felt it as strong as I did and wasn’t able to hear it. The feeling of it being there was so strong that I practically ran as fast as I could outside and then it went away when I saw it right above my head just floating by like a skyscraper flying.”

Tennessee MUFON is investigating. The case was submitted to MUFON on February 23, 2016. No images or videos were included with the report.

Maryland witness says triangle UFO hovered over hospital

A Maryland witness at Silver Spring reported watching a silent, hovering, triangle-shaped UFO above Holy Cross Hospital about 6 a.m. on March 9, 2016, according to testimony in Case 75115 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was driving to work westbound along I-495 at the University Boulevard exit when lights were noticed in the sky that appeared at first to be airplane landing lights.

“The lights were extremely bright and arranged left to right with two white lights, one red light in the center followed be two white lights,” the witness stated. “There was a lot of traffic, so I wasn’t moving fast, but I noticed the lights seemed not to move so I thought they could be aircraft warning lights on a crane.”

But as the witness drove west past the Colesville Road exit, there was no crane and the lights were observed above the westbound lanes across from Holy Cross Hospital.

“I thought it could be a helicopter landing at the hospital, but I heard no rotors or engines and the lights appeared to be perfectly still. That’s when I had a feeling it could be something else. I cut my radio down and drove directly beneath it.”

The witness described the object while driving underneath it.

“What I saw was a black craft with what appeared to be swept back wings with a tail that had small fins. It was not a helicopter or a blimp and it did not make any noise I could hear or feel any vibrations or see rotors. It appeared perfectly still as I drove under it. I was and still in disbelief. I almost crashed into another car and kept saying out load that I couldn’t be the only one to see that. There was a lot of traffic.”

The witness the lost sight of the object.

No photos or videos were included with the report, which was filed on March 10, 2016. Maryland MUFON is investigating.

Chevron-shaped UFO crosses Virginia sky under 700 feet

A Virginia witness at Centreville reported watching a low flying, chevron-shaped UFO that moved silently overhead under 700 feet, according to testimony in Case 74930 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside in a hot tub with his wife and adult son looking up at the night sky on a clear and moonless night about 9:30 p.m. on February 28, 2016.

“We like to look up at the stars and keep an eye out for passing satellites or the occasional shooting star,” the witness stated.“We live in Northern Virginia, so with all the light pollution, that’s a challenge.”

The witness then noticed something unusual in the sky.

“As I was looking up I spotted a V-shaped formation of round lights coming straight in our direction from the south. I pointed it out immediately to my son and wife who saw it clearly as well.”

The witness described the object.

“It had a row of four to five round, orange/copper colored lights on each side of the V with a light at the point. Judging only from its lights – we could not see any structural definition – it appeared to be about the same size as a McDonnell Douglas DC-9.”

The object was flying rather close to the ground.

“It flew by approximately 500-700 feet up from the ground, about the same height of approaching aircraft to the airport. The object flew due north right overhead of us. We live close to Dulles International Airport so we frequently see and hear (very noisy) approaching and departing aircraft in the area.”
But something stood out with this object.

“There were no aircraft in the immediate area during our sighting of the craft. If flew over steady, fast and silently. Not a sound! The whole event took less than eight seconds, but left us speechless! We could not explain it away as an aircraft, flock of geese, or anything from our experience.”

The witness woke up at 3:30 a.m. with “stomach trouble” while on a deer hunt on November 1, 2014, and left his vehicle.

“I observed a black triangle dart across the rims of the canyon we were camping in,” the witness stated.“Object made no sound.”

But the observation of an unusual craft did not seem to disturb the witness at the time.

“I seemed to not even care, got up and went back to my vehicle. Months later, I recalled the hunting trip and remembered the event. My actions that night were uncharacteristic as I have looked to the skies my whole life and never witnessed a UFO before. Why then, when I finally saw something I could not explain, did I brush it off as nothing?”

Witness illustration. (Credit: MUFON)
Witness illustration. (Credit: MUFON)

The witness does recall a memory of not wanting to see the UFO again.

“I do remember not wanting to see it come back as I fell asleep that morning.”

The witness details the sighting.

“The direction of flight was perpendicular to the northeast-southwest running canyon. I projected the speed to be about 500 mph at an altitude of 1,000 feet AGL. Object appeared to be between 50-75 feet of equal length sides. No lights. If it had not been for city light pollution on an overcast sky, I would not have noticed the object. The object made no sound whatsoever.”

The witness has a background in observation.

“See details in map sketches. I am a trained meteorological observer from the military. I know our traditional aircraft. This was not one of them. The other people I camped with slept through the entirety of the event.”

UFO INCIDENTS: The Great Michigan UFO Chase Of 1966 - 7 Police Officers And Sheriff's Deputies Witness UFO Hovering Over Livingston And Washtenaw Counties!

UFO over Michigan in 1966.

March 24, 2016 -  MICHIGAN, UNITED STATES - On a quiet day in March, 1966, seven eyewitnesses reported an unidentified flying object maneuvering over Livingston and Washtenaw counties.

Ordinarily, these reports might have been dismissed by officials as the work of cranks. But this time, the seven witnesses WERE officials -- police officers and sheriff's deputies from the two counties.

And their stories were backed up by more than 100 witnesses, including William Van Horn, a civil defense director, and dozens of students who watched the football-shaped object for four hours as it maneuvered near the University of Michigan campus, a nearby airport and a local swamp.

The March 14 sightings caused an uproar and the area went on a wild UFO chase.

Three days later on March 17 two Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies, Sgt. Neil Schneider and Deputy David Fitzpatrick saw three or four red, white and green circular objects oscillating and glowing near Milan about 4 a.m.

They called Willow Run Airport officials who could not confirm with radar.

Saucers lands on road near Clare, Michigan in 1966.

Two more Washtenaw deputies, BuFord Bushroe and John Foster tried to follow the same type of objects in the northern part of the county on March 20. Livingston and Monroe county residents also reported seeing the objects.

The Detroit News carried the police chase story the next day along with a drawing of a quilted football shaped object with lights, dome and antennae. (It was not maize and blue with a big M on it.)

Dexter patrolman Robert Huniwell said he spotted an object in the sky at Quigley and Brand roads between 9:30 and 9:45 PM.

He said the flying object with red and green flashing lights, came close to the ground, hovered above a scout car and was joined by a second vehicle on its ascent.

Washtenaw County Deputy Sheriff BuFord Bushroe also observed it. "It looked like an arc. It was round. We turned around and started following it through Dexter for five miles. It was headed west and we stopped.

Frank Mannor and son at landing site.
We lost it in the trees. Either the lights went off or it took off with a tremendous burst of speed. It was about 1,500 feet above the ground. It moved along at about 100 mph. We were doing 70 before losing it near Wylie Road."

Carloads of college students from nearby University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University converged on the area after hearing radio reports of the sightings.

Mannor was asked if it could have been a college prank. He vigorously denied the possibility. "They couldn't rig rigging to it. There was not anything there, There was no way in the world to get out. There were two scout cars on the hill and more at the house."

"I know every pothole in this county," he said. "I've never seen anything like it. There's nothing wrong with my eyes and my son has 20/20 vision. We both can't be wrong."

"My wife says we'll move out of here," he said. "She doesn't like that. I never lock the doors. Nobody ever bothers us."

An Adrian College professor offered the theory that northern lights may be the objects the deputies tried to chase.

On March 22 dozens of residents of Dexter and Hillsdale reported more flying objects emitting strange sounds and lights.

On March 23 a teen from Monroe said he took photos, which looked like a big black blob.

The Air Force sent in Blue Book astronomer and UFO expert Dr. J. Allen Hynek who, after a whirlwind probe that lasted two hours and 45 minutes, dismissed the sightings as "swamp gas."

Hynek quoted a description of marsh gases by Dutch astronomer Minnaert: "The lights resemble tiny flames, sometimes seen right on the ground, sometimes merely floating above it.

"The flames go out in one place and suddenly appear in another, giving the illusion of motion. The colors are sometimes yellow, sometimes red and bluegreen."

"Marsh gas," Hynek said, "usually has no smell, but sounds like the small popping explosions similar to a gas burner igniting. The gas forms from decomposition of vegetation. It seems likely that as the present spring thaws came, the gases methane, hydrogen sulfide and phosphine, resulting from decomposition of organic materials, were released."

He also said youths playing "pranks with flares" added to the excitement. He dismissed a photo taken March 17 as a time exposure of the moon and Venus.

Van Horn, a Hillsdale native who grew up on the edge of a swamp, was outraged by Hynek's findings, asserting that he knew more about swamp gas than Hynek did. He said Hynek ignored his reports that the lights moved and that there was a convex surface between the lights.

A fake photo was taken by Air Force investigator Maj. Raymond Nyls in March 1967 in an attempt to duplicate a photo taken by brothers Grant and Dan Jaroslaw of Harrison Twp. The UFO is actually a block of wood hanging by a string from a children's swing set.

UFO expert Dr. J. Allen Hynek, left, and Dexter Police
Chief Robert R. Taylor go over map of UFO sightings
in the area.
Van Horn, a pilot with a commercial rating, objected to the treatment of what came to be known as "the Michigan affair" by the Air Force, charging that "a lot of good people are being ridiculed."

Hynek replied that he still believed that marsh gas was the logical explanation for these sightings.

Sightings of UFOs in the area continued, but these apparent copycat incidents seemed obviously fake. A Grand Haven man who reported a UFO landing near his home was not believed. Eastern Michigan University Police Chief John E. Hayes examines a Yipsilanti UFO that turned out to be a dry cleaning bag with a plastic cross on the open bottom holding several small candles.

On March 29 more sightings were reported over Michigan. Some from Macomb and Oakland counties, others from Bad Axe, Flint and Ann Arbor. Viewers included Richard Sober of Ann Arbor, an off-duty sheriff's deputy, and Police Chief Ford Wallace of Linden.

In Washington the government was urged to release all information on the sightings.

In April Frankfort and Marquette joined in with sightings. The Frankfort sighting was identified as a marine flare.

The next year brothers Grant and Dan Jaroslaw of Harrison Twp, took photos of objects they claimed were flying over Lake St. Clair. A lie detector test failed to back up their story.

Hynek returned to Hillsdale but stuck to his original swamp gas declaration.

There were a few more sightings in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Ypsilanti and Grand Haven. In February four Ann Arbor residents reported objects flying in formation. And in Grand Haven police confirmed the sightings.

Not much came of all the commotion. However the popularity of reporting unusual stuff in the sky to officials kept Selfridge Air Force base busy. By 1968, they were receiving two or three reports of UFO sightings per week.  - Detroit News.
